Non-Gaussian statistics of binding/unbinding events and the energetics of electron transfer reactions
نویسنده
چکیده
We describe a model of electron transfer reactions affected by local binding to the donor or acceptor sites of a particle in equilibrium with the solution. The statistics of fluctuations of the donor–acceptor energy gap caused by binding/unbinding events are non-Gaussian, and the resulting free energy surfaces of electron transfer are non-parabolic. The band-width of the charge-transfer optical transition is predicted to pass through a maximum as a function of the concentration of binding particles in the solution. The breakdown of the link between the Stokes shift and the reorganization energy of electron transfer is also predicted by the model. 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Despite its diversity, life universally relies on a simple basic mechanism of energy transfer in its energy chains-hopping electron transport between centers of electron localization on hydrated proteins and redox cofactors. Since many such hops connect the point of energy input with a catalytic site where energy is stored in chemical bonds, the question of energy losses in (nearly activationle...

متن کاملCalculation for Energy of (111) Surfaces of Palladium in Tight Binding Model
In this work calculation of energetics of transition metal surfaces is presented. The tight-binding model is employed in order to calculate the energetics. The tight-binding basis set is limited to d orbitals which are valid for elements at the end of transition metals series. In our analysis we concentrated on electronic effects at temperature T=0 K, this means that no entropic term will be pr...

Density-functional-based and ab initio calculations were implemented at different computational levels to estimate the binding energy of Zn2+ ion adsorbed on the available sites of a silicate MEL-type adsorbent. B3LYP and MP2 were used in combination with the 6-31G*, 6-31+G*, LanL2DZ, 6-311+G*, and Def2-TZVP basis sets. The zinc cation was found to preferentially occupy the 6MR sites followed b...
متن کاملConformational selection in protein binding and function.
Protein binding and function often involves conformational changes. Advanced nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments indicate that these conformational changes can occur in the absence of ligand molecules (or with bound ligands), and that the ligands may "select" protein conformations for binding (or unbinding). In this review, we argue that this conformational selection requires transitio...
